Casket's made for Sacred Heart Parish for the re-interment of our Pioneer Parishioners.
Recently Pedro's Custom Woodworking has been busy constructing over 100 caskets for Sacred Heart Parish. The caskets will be used for the re-interment or our Pioneer Parishioners on October 16, 2009 in Ingersoll Ontario. Back in 2008 during the construction digging on John street to creat afforable housing, human bones were found. After some investigation it was discovered that not all bodies were moved to the new Catholic Cemetery in 1858. The old Catholic Cemetery was located on John St., and was used from 1838 to 1858. Then was re-located off Northtown Line when all the bodies were moved to the new location........they thought anyway. During the excavating process at the old graveyard, they discovered empty grave shafts that bad been moved along with the graves that were not touched. Which contained the remains of over 100 people, approximately half of them being children.
The bones of over 100 people have been housed at the University of Western Ontario, where archeologist have been examining and researching the history in the 1800's. The information has been significant in learning what life was like in the 1800's. To this day so far, there has been only 5 names found of the parishionrs, becasue of name plates being damaged by aging and general deterioration they are very difficult to read. Sacred Heart was able to contact a relative of one of the people who were dis-interred.
The burial is scheduled for 10:00 am at the Sacred Heart Church beginning with a memorial mass on October 16, 2009 with burial to follow at 2:00 pm. For more information contact the Parish 519-485-1802.
